The impact of the California Film Tax Credit, which we first reviewed back in July, has already had an enormous effect on film and television production throughout the state. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger announced this week that the first batch of 36 movies and television shows to capitalize on the new incentive will be going into production this fall. Designed to keep production in California and minimize the number of shows moving to cheaper locales, the incentive program is part of a 5-year, $500-million effort.

For the eighth consecutive year, Vision Event Productions partnered with Salt Lake City-based Burton Group to design and manage hospitality suites at Burton’s annual conference, Catalyst. Held at the new Hilton San Diego Bayfront on July 27 – 31, Catalyst brought together mid- to upper-level IT directors, architects and managers for a conversation about IT strategies in 2009.
Vision’s role in the conference was to create and manage 10 unique hospitality suites, or individually-themed parties, to provide an on-site entertainment option for attendees on Wednesday and Thursday night.
“This event is always a lot of fun for us,” said Senior Director of Events Joseph Parkes. “Hosting multiple hospitality suites over the course of two days gives us the chance to think outside the box and create dynamic experiences that encourage Burton’s guests to network, relax and interact with each other in fun settings.”

At least once per month, 360 LIVE will be highlighting one of San Diego’s many talented production or event professionals. This month, our focus is on Andy Kuepper, a Director of Photography with extensive feature film, primetime television and commercial experience.
Power to the People: The Impact of Digital Filmmaking
In 2007, Andy Kuepper gained widespread recognition from outlets such as American Cinematographer, International Cinematographer's Guild Magazine, and BroadcastEngineering for his pioneering use of Panasonic’s AG-HVX200 P2 HD camcorder to film "Sarah Landon and the Paranormal Hour." When Kuepper was approached to shoot the feature film, the producers were contemplating the up-and-coming HDV format. After extensive research, Kuepper came to the conclusion that “pro-sumer” grade equipment had reached a level of quality that could begin to attain the production value of a Hollywood film and recommended the unconventional approach.
