In recent months, San Diego residents have enjoyed a series of witty new Cox Communications commercials inspired by shows such as “The Dating Game.” Thus far, Satellite Video Productions has produced 3 campaigns for Cox Communications in 2009, and local lighting company Available Light/JT Services has partnered with Cox on an ongoing basis to provide lighting services for each commercial shoot.

The first campaign, "Fortune Cookie," was a series of six humorous spots shot at Chin's in La Mesa. Following the campaign's success, Cox proceeded with a second campaign spoofing The Dating Game called "It's Your Choice." The spots were shot at Satellite Video Productions on a set designed by Jeff Van Gonka that nailed the original show's look and feel. Most recently, Cox has moved into a series of commercials featuring a therapist dishing out life-changing advice to confused and frustrated customers.

"Our schedule had us shooting up to seven 30-second spots plus B-roll in a day with upwards of 20 talent, so teamwork was essential," said Jim Teiper. “The camaraderie and stylistic capabilities of the crew allowed us to deliver more than was thought possible under very demanding circumstances. Plus we had a blast doing it!"

All of the spots were shot on an HDX 900 using a Porta-Jib for camera movement. In conjunction with Available Light/JT Services, Carl Perkins ran the camera for each commercial and formulated the looks of various spots. Involved lighting personnel also included Kevin Funaki, Nick Berry, Nicholas Calabria, Dave Lichtenberg and Chris Ernst. Available Light/JT Services also recently completed lighting design work on new promotional spots for a line of nutritional supplements for Sci-Fit.
